NY Surf Launches Women’s Pre-Professional Program
NY SURF LAUNCHES PRE-PROFESSIONAL PROGRAM
United Women’s Soccer adds NY Surf to East Conference
NEW YORK, December 8, 2016 – New York Surf Soccer Club is proud to announce the continued expansion of its player development pathway on the women’s and girl’s side through our acceptance into United Women’s Soccer, the “second tier” league of Women’s soccer in the U.S. The NY Surf UWS team will start play in May 2017 and is expected to be comprised of some the nation’s most talented current and former collegiate, ex-professional players, including current and former WNT & YNT players, and a select number of the country’s most elite high school juniors and seniors. NY Surf will be announcing the Head Coach and coaching staff for its UWS team shortly.

By adding this program to our player development pathway, the nation’s top collegiate and ex-professional players, including those from San Diego Surf and the other Surf affiliates, will have the opportunity to spend the summer in New York City playing at an extremely high level, which is critical for continued development,” said Matt Popoli, President of NY Surf. “We believe that our affiliation with Surf Soccer, which has an unparalleled history of excellence, including being a winner of nine youth soccer USYS and ECNL national championships; host of the nation’s #1 ranked girls soccer tournament – Surf Cup; and success in sending dozens of players to the Men’s and Women’s U.S. National Teams, will allow us to draw the country’s most talented players to our UWS program, which will continue this tradition of excellence,” added Popoli.
New York Surf is also planning to launch a similar pre-professional pathway program on the men’s side. Details of which will be announced in early 2017.
NY Surf will be conducting tryouts for players at The Underdome, located at 657 Garden Ave in Mt. Vernon, NY on January 11, 2017 from 11:00AM to 12:30PM. Additional tryout dates and locations will be announced shortly. Qualified players need to pre-register for our UWS tryouts at http://www.nysurfsoccer.org/uwsnysurf/.
About United Women’s Soccer (UWS):
UWS is a national women’s soccer league sanctioned by U.S. Soccer through the United States Adult Soccer Association (USASA). UWS is a professionally operated league created for teams that meet high minimum standards. The season runs from May until the end of July, culminating in a National Championship match.
