NEW YORK,NY May 16, 2017 New York Surf Soccer Club is pleased to announce the official launch the NY Surf Boys Academy.  Joining NY Surf to lead the Boys Academy Program are Winston Buddle and Jeff Matteo, who will work collaboratively with the rest of the NY Surf leadership team.

“We are very excited to welcome two top-class coaches in Winston Buddle and Jeff Matteo to our Boys Academy staff,” said Matt Popoli, President of New York Surf Soccer Club. “Both Winston and Jeff bring an incredible amount of value and experience to our club, and we know that our Boys Academy players will be in great hands under their guidance.”

For nearly 20 years, Buddle has been widely regarded as one of the premier youth soccer coaches in the NY metro area. He is renowned for both his vast knowledge of the game and his ability to convey that knowledge to youngsters in a manner that is positive and nurturing.

“I am honored to have been appointed the Technical Director of the NY Surf Boys Academy Program,” Buddle stated. “NY Surf is already one of the preeminent names when it comes to soccer in the New York metro region, and the Boys Academy Program establishes an even stronger footprint within the game in this area.  We look forward to providing the many talented players in our program with a pathway that can ultimately lead them to the professional level.”

In addition to serving as Boys Technical Director, Winston will continue to serve as Head Coach of the existing Golden Touch B’99 team that will play as “NY Surf – Golden Touch B’99 Academy” during 2017-2018 as well as coaching a younger aged Westchester-based Academy team.

Matteo is in his 10th season coaching at his alma mater, where he helped guide the Red Storm to five NCAA Tournament appearances, including one trip to the NCAA College Cup, two BIG EAST Tournament crowns and one BIG EAST regular season title. Hired prior to the 2007 season, Matteo returned to Queens following a five-year professional career that included stints in both the United States and Italy.

“I am excited to be joining the outstanding coaching leadership group at NY Surf to help lead our Boys Academy Program,” Matteo remarked. “Our Academy Program will play a critical role in the development of our players, and this is a responsibility that will not be taken lightly. Along with Winston Buddle and the leadership at NY Surf, we will be focused on providing a top-flight environment for the athletes who play within our system.”
